Croxteth Hall

Speke Hall now closed on a Tuesday, although the fab grounds are still open. So I now have a bit more free time. Today it was Croxteth Hall. Grade II listed building. Original house built in 1575. Expanded in several stages IN Tudor, Georgian and Queen Anne styles. The front being built in 1702. After catching up on Victoria on TV last night, I was delighted to find the Victoria, Albert and their children stayed at Croxteth Hall on 9th October 1851, before visiting Liverpool. When the last Earl died in 1972 they tried without success to find an heir to the title. The estate passed to Liverpool City Council, who after the sale of approx half of the grounds manage the remainder. in March 2013 it was announced that a £400,000 programme would be undertaken to restore the damaged Queen Anne wing which was gutted by fire in 1952. Fabulous walks, including a walled garden. Small charge to tour the house. Sadly the only downside was the disgraceful amount of litter around the lawns. Clearly the left over from picnics. The team were working hard to tidy up. What a shame some ************ cant leave it the way they find it. Extra shows another view of the house. Weather permitting I'm venturing over to Bishop Burton, close to Beverley. The home of the Watt family (owners of Speke Hall until 1921). Have a great week, I intend to.
