Elder Park
A new destination for me this afternoon: Elder Park in Govan.
I visited Govan a few weeks ago to see the historic 'Govan Stones' and, noticing that Elder Park was nearby, made a mental note to return at some point soon thereafter. As I had a spare hour or two, and had been in Glasgow city centre anyway, I took the bus out and had a wander round this small but interesting park.
It was gifted to the people of Govan by Isabella Elder (see extra photo) in 1885 and contains one of the very few monuments to a woman in the city - it was certainly the only one for many years. Isabella Elder, in addition to her own considerable achievements, was the wife of John Elder who was one of the co-founders of the Fairfield Shipyard in Govan.
