Trieste View ...

... from our tenth floor apartment apartment here  (I was tempted to call this the 90-Euro view, because that's our daily rental--hotels are 3 to 4 times that). Trieste is 100 miles due east of Venice; we took the two-hour  train ride yesterday. It is at the northern end of the Adriatic Sea, which extends along the eastern shore of Italy, separating it from the Balkans. It rained virtually all day (see the extra!)--the dark sky in the main blip was the portent.   The extra shows that the rain really came down!

Our main outing today was the very nearby (fortunately) Revoltella Museum of modern Italian art. It "originated from an institution founded in 1872 by Baron Pasquale Revoltella (1795 – 1869)." He was an entrepreneur and financier--originally from Venice but who settled in Trieste. He bequeathed a sprawling building and generous capital to permit the acquisition of  a large collection of Italian art from the late 19th century and after. Unfortunately it's displayed in unconventional fashion and lacks clear supporting information. His lavish living quarters are an enjoyable part of the whole.
