East Neuk 4

A fish supper from the famous Anstruther Fish Bar is just about the best way to start a wee holiday weekend in the East Neuk.

There are sometimes queues out of the door of this place, such is the quality of their fish and chips and it was certainly packed tonight. The queue disappears fast though as the service is so good and you are in and out (cleverly via the ice cream counter) in no time at all. I once heard of someone who upon seeing the long queue outside the shop decided not to wait and instead headed off to another chipper further along the road on the belief that the award winning one surely couldn't be that good. Apparently his family have never really forgiven him for that.

We came down to Fife this weekend for a variety of reasons. A family friend of mine is getting married in St Andrews tomorrow. My mum is going to the wedding (my dad would be too but he happens to be in Slovakia at another wedding this weekend) and I wanted to go to the service to watch. My lovely husband and I also celebrate our 11th anniversary tomorrow and so it seemed nice to try and tie my trip to St Andrews into a wee weekend away together. Thanks to the generosity of some other friends we are staying in their fabulous four story house for the weekend and our boys have already run wild up and down the stairs exploring each of the different rooms and spaces on the different levels (you'd think stairs were a novelty when in fact we have far too many in our own house!)

Here's to scrambling around on the rocks, playing on the beach and generally enjoying the seaside vibe.
