Day 13
Oh my goodness. We woke this morning all of us bursting with excitement as we prepared to trek through the jungle growth up the side of a volcano to visit the mountain gorilla's in their natural habitat. We were split into groups of 8 and each party visited a different gorilla family for a strict 1 hours contact as they are very susceptible to human disease. After 2 hours walking we were instructed to put down our packs and move forward a couple of hundred yards where a huge Silverback, head of the Amahoro group, lay in a clearing in the sunshine with a couple of juveniles stretched out beside him. What a magnificent sight and i think all of us felt very emotional and pretty choked up initially. Our gorilla family had the youngest baby aged just 2 weeks old which the mother was nursing holding it exactly the same as a human would. All in all we probably saw about 12 gorillas of varying ages and was the perfect highlight of the trip.
