What a weekend!!
Day 1
An early start to meet up with R & P and drop the dogs off at the kennels. We headed down to London for the weekend by car, as there are diversions on the rail network and the normal 90-minute journey would take between 5 and 6 hrs today!! We parked up on the outskirts and headed into the city by tube.
We are staying near Waterloo Station and having dropped off the bags we set off to walk along the South Bank to the Golden Hinde and back which took a couple of hours. R hasn’t been in that area for years and hadn’t seen all the developments.
Checked in and quick turn round to get the tube to Stratford. Early dinner at a South American restaurant with delicious food and beer before heading to Lee Valley VeloPark to see the 5th day of 6 Day London cycling event. B & R went last year and thoroughly enjoyed it, so we all went this year.
Taking photographs in these circumstances is well outside my skills and comfort zone!!! This is the least rubbish one, but does give some idea of the scene inside the Velodrome. It was a fantastic, vibrant, noisy, fun evening. I’ve seen the racing on TV and knew a little about the various races, but nothing prepares you for the speed that they travel at and the skill required to avoid taking other cyclists off the track.
Almost midnight before we got back to the hotel and long awaited sleep!!
