First sunset of winter
Two days ago I was watching an East Coast sunset - all pink clouds and fiery glow - and it was still, remarkably, Summer Time. Today, at what seemed an absurdly early hour, I was taking a photo of this golden sunset above Bute, with the hills of Arran visible to the left and the long shadows of the trees darkening our road and lowering the temperature perceptibly.
So ... things to remember for the next four months:
It is not a good idea to linger over lunch, let alone fall asleep after it, if you want out for a walk in daylight, let alone any sun that might be going.
Despite your best efforts with the above, wear a decent jacket. It's going to be cold when the sun (if you're lucky enough to have any) goes down.
The light will be more interesting than in high summer, if there's any sun at all. Otherwise it'll just be the usual grey, but darker.
It won't last for ever. But neither will you - don't wish the winter away.
There we go again - a preoccupation with sunlight and death. Can't be healthy. But it was a great walk on a glorious day.
My extra photo is of the perfect reflections on the artificial lake in the grounds of Knockdow House.
