Remembrance 3

A slice of toast and a mug of coffee before Clare and I set off, wreath in hand, for the Moor and the parade.
Year on year Falmouth’s Remembrance Day Parade has grown, so much so that at one point today I didn’t think everyone would fit into Kimberley Park.
The service, moving as always, took place in crisp, clear weather, the opportunity to meet and share the day with fellow veterans and friends makes it more than about just remembering.
I declined the post parade drinks in Wetherspoons in order to get home and get ready for the afternoon parade in Truro.
This parade was a different kettle of fish, in a bitter cold, biting wind, we were kept waiting outside for almost forty minutes whilst the ‘great & good’ darank tea or coffee in the warm and ‘networked’. Meanwhile outside we waited, they should be reminded that some of those waiting were in their ‘70’s and 80’s and frail.
Eventually the parade got underway, the five remaining Veterans laid their wreaths, joined the parade to march past but ducked out of the hour long service in the cathedral.
Home to warm up and a Clare cooked roast dinner.

A long day.
