Flying Dolphin

In case you have never seen one before, this is known as a Flying Dolphin (ΦΛΑΙΝΓΚ ΝΤΟΛΦΙΝ). It was a Russian hydrofoil troop carrier used for transporting armed forces up and down Russia's great rivers. These days Greece has bought them as commuter vessels between the islands and the mainland. Glossa receives a particularly poor service during the winter but here is FD Erato whooshing past our house from Glossa on its way to Skop Town standing up on its pedals.

I have been sleuthing with regard to Christian-hyphen-mythological female Greek names :-)
Our beautiful accountant, Maria-Dimitra was named Maria after her mother's mother as is traditional but the -Dimitra was added as a nod to Granny Maria's late husband Demetrios who had died before their grand-daughter was born. Demetrios as in St Demetrios and is Christian, not a mythological male form of Demeter.
Maria-Dimitra's daughter Ioanna-Dionysia is named Ioanna after her mother's mother as is traditional but the -Dionysia was added because both parents were overwhelmed by the beauty of the church of St Dionysos on the island of Zakynthos when they went there on holiday in 2014. Apparently St Dionysos is the patron saint of Zakynthos and is Christian, not the mythological god of wine.
