poppy seeds

On my doorstep today this envelope of seeds and poppy pods from lovely neighbour Doris.
Some weeks ago we chatted on the street (as you do) and I admired her crop of poppies sparking the morning with colour.
D has lived in 'our street' for at least 50 years and grows grapes,  grapefruit and is the go to person for valley history.
She still chops wood for her new wood fired stove, is always busy and never forgets a promise.
Hence the envelope of poppy seeds.
What a star.

And here's the story of the 'Shirley Poppy': The name Shirley Poppies comes from where the first strain was developed, in the village of Shirley, in the United Kingdom where the vicar of a parish in the village made the very first selections, thus, isolating the first strains from wild poppies. Since then, all Shirley Poppy selections have originated from that first selection, and many are still grown today.
