Pied Stilts or Poaka

We have had so much rain in the past week, that (again) ponds (or in some cases lakes) have appeared in paddocks. Going past one of those 'ponds' this afternoon, I spotting this Pied Stilt, which was with his/her mate. We don't often see these, but I suppose due to the wetness, they have appeared looking for a place to build their nest. I love the long red legs that they have.

Today we have had more fine weather than wet, although it hasn't been very warm at times. This wet weather that we have been getting, is the El Nino weather pattern that has been forecasted for this year. This means that it tends to be wetter on the west coast of the Country and typically leads to droughts on the east coast. I would rather have the wet conditions, than having to deal with drought.
