Local legend Ruth Heritage has started a new project, The People's Production Lab, in Preston, and this evening was the opening combined with a Christmas party. The Minx had been there all afternoon, helping to set up, and by the time I arrived there was an avenue of Christmas trees leading to the entrance, upon which the Minx was busy helping to hang lights. 

We had a look around before heading back down to the ground floor for mulled wine and some chat. These guys were playing Christmas tunes and it was perfect. I seem to be getting more into brass as I get older, especially the way in which a trumpet can make a melody keen. 

The quartet obviously play together a lot; often they were discussing the arrangement literally seconds before launching into a piece. Given a more comfy chair and a flask of mulled wine, I could have sat there all evening.
