A Long Day

We headed over to my sister-in-law's early this morning and I set to making tea and bacon rolls for all.
The hospice phoned at 9am to say the transport had been arranged for MIL and should be there within 2 hours.
Medication was administered by the District Nurse which would cover that time and the transport time.
6 hours later a transport ambulance arrived!
Not only that, there was no way that two people could get a stretcher down the stairs since they have a tight 90 degree turn. The crew contacted the control officer and were told "Yes - We know it is a 4 man job. No - we haven't sent a back up crew ....... they will be coming from the Royal Infirmary Of Edinburgh. They will take half an hour"
The district Nurse was contacted and we were told she would not be able to make it within half an hour but instructed that oral morphine (which we could administer) would be okay.
The 2nd crew arrived after an hour!
It was still a hard job to get the MIL on the stretcher  down even with the four crew so I ended up giving a little help be directing where feet and steps were in relation to each other and supporting the backs of the two at the lower end and also opening the ambulance so there was no delay.
Thankfully all went relatively smoothly and MIL is now ensconced in a room under the care of lovely staff (who cannot do enough to help).

While we were waiting at one point all 5 siblings were in the same room with MIL and there was a lot of laughter and reminiscing. SWMBO says that although MIL was lying with her eyes closed and saying nothing every now and then there was a small smill appearing on her face - she was obviously enjoying have all her chidren together and having 'fun' without interuption from others.
