Joey Doesn’t Share Food

Dear O'H dear and Lovely Tea Jenny,

Seven of us went to Dishoom (again) for Dodzilla’s leaving lunch. As always it was very lovely but the waitress was slightly pushy about how we should eat.

‘So, the best way to eat here is to order dishes and share’ she explained.

I swear to God, 6 blokes physically recoiled at the ‘s’ word.

‘It really is a lovely way to eat. It’s much better if you share’

Again, the look of horror on the faces of my colleagues.

Her advice was completely ignored and everyone ordered individual meals.

Even at this point, she still hadn’t worked out that she was dealing with a table of Joey from Friends clones as she suggested biryanis to share instead of rice and bread. There was a moment of quiet. Then we ordered rice and bread.

She conceded defeat at this point and gave up trying to enhance our dining experience.

I was crying with laughter.

It would be more socially acceptable to these guys to admit to having sexual fantasies about Donald Trump than to suggest getting sharing dishes.

You both know that I LOVE sharing food. Really love it. I love choosing together and ordering things that I haven’t tried before. I love trying little bits of everything. I love watching reactions to food. I love chatting about the food. I also like ranking the dishes by order of preference but that’s probably just a flash of OCD!

Most of my favourite people like sharing food. Despite waxing lyrical about it, the food is never the most memorable thing about our evenings.
