Orange Peel Fungus
Another of my favourites - the orange peel fungus. I spotted these yesterday. They appear on bare clay soil especially when its recently been cleared of bracken or gorse. In this instance a whole mass have emerged directly on the Tunbridge Wells sandstone ridge that runs along the northern edge of the commons. At this stage they are very small and distinctly cup shaped but in a few days time they will open out to resemble pieces of orange peel.
