Synergy: 'the cooperative interaction among groups
I have been reading an inspiring book about the co-operative revolution in a new publication to celebrate the International Year of Co-operatives. It challenges the Darwinian theory of survival of the fittest and cites many examples in nature where co-operation within one or more species makes for efficiency and survival.
In 1844, the Rochdale pioneers created a successful co-operative model that became a blueprint for UK consumer co-operatives and goes on to inspire today's global movement.
And this morning, there they were, hundreds of wild geese, flying co-operatively, conserving energy by reducing wind resistance and taking turns to fly in the lead position.
It makes me proud to be a Co-op member.
