This is either a soldier beetle or it's not
Another one of those bugs I can't identify. At first I thought it was a plague soldier beetle (so called because they occur in vast numbers when mating). But there was only one of them, and that's definitely not a plague. Plus the head is entirely different.
So yet again, I've sent an email to my long suffering friends at the SA Museum to ask for their help.
Had a great day today - went to the Sustainability Fair run by Mitcham Council - got 3 free plants, all caterpillar and butterfly hosts, and a swag of information. Such fun, and a perfect day weatherwise. We also bought a neat book on magpies and their habits, and another called a Guide to Urban Wildlife.
We're going into the S.A. Museum tomorrow to get a book of bug identification and also look at the ANZANG Nature Photography Exhibition. Looking forward to that.
