Medal lost on the turn of a wing
I thought I'd pop over to the Sears Arena this morning where Team Ring-billed Gull was competing in several events. The brilliant Reggie executed a perfect landing after a quadruple Lutz in the air dancing - you can see him swooping in over the crowd in Extra. Given his young age ('tis only his second winter of gull-dom), he hadn't been favored to medal...but that is what makes these AOGs so special, the undergull stories!
Unfortunately, the rest of the day didn't go quite as well for Team RB Gull. Alas, when it came down to the finals in the "stand-in-unison-facing-the-wind" event, young Ruby couldn't contain herself and spontaneously broke out into a yoga pose...or maybe it was hip-hop...hard to tell. In any event, the judges disqualified her immediately and are now investigating the possibility of doping. A sad day for this newby competitor. However, her teammates showed remarkable restraint and held their poses, going on to medal in the event.
Meanwhile, back at the Andover Arena, most of the events were a washout today. Cold rains kept most of the competitors in the cafeteria rather than the arena. In fact, the officials finally decided to put fresh meal worms on the buffet which totally distracted all 11 members of Team Titmouse. It was a full on rush until every last worm was history.
Your Intrepid Reporter from NJ is leaving after daybreak tomorrow with her faithful sherpa/driver. We are hoping for a break in the weather so that I can bring you one more update from the Stadium. On Saturday, I'll be checking in on some toddler-Olympics - stay tuned. Hopefully Sunday I'll be home early enough to cover the AOG Closing Ceremonies.
In the meanwhile, keep those reports coming in, people. And don't forget to tag everything with 2018AOG(date)!
xo,
Debbi
