Old Engine Shaft - Coniston Coppermines

A recce for the LDNP of the Coniston Copper Trail walk which is one of my training walks. This is the renovated Old Engine Shaft with the Threadle incline behind. Also behind but difficult to spot is Millican's Wheel pit where the unfortunate Thomas Millican who in 1850 met an untimely and horrific death after falling into the rapidly rotting water wheel. The description of the "distressing incident" in the Ulverston advertiser was truly graphic.
