Greenback gardens- Glasgow

 
Ever since we won Life membership of the National Trust in a raffle some years ago we have used it to seek out interesting places.
 
Today we ticked off one on the “bucket list”: Greenbank gardens, south of Glasgow. (See extra photo), an 18th century walled garden.
 
Built by Robert Allason who  made his money as a tobacco and slave trader, as  did many Glasgow businessmen).
 
After the American Wars of Independence he went bankrupt and lost the house and estate, which is now in the hands of the National Trust.
 
The enormous walled garden is divided up into outdoor rooms with changing vistas. Very  little was out due to the late Spring but it would certainly be worth going back to in the summer.
 
However, on a cold Easter Monday there was not much to see.
   
And it’s now snowing….
