Hardwick Hall

On my way to see freinds in Manchester I stopped off to visist Hardwick Hall - an amazing Elizebathan house built by 'Bess of Hardwick'. Its massive, and stands on top of a very windy ridge looking towards Chatsworth. She built this after her 4th (!) husband died. Something of a statement, as on the balustrade round the roof, she had her initials placed, carved in stone, about 6' high - on each of the 4 sides. No missing that it was where SHE lived!

I am constantly amazed that we peasants never managed to have a Revolution when I look at all the wealth & power amassed by Church & Aristocracy !!
