Lake Orta and Lake Maggiore
Another fantastic day. We drove to tiny Lake Orta and explored the pretty little village. Such a tiny lake and the Alps rise sharply. It was beautiful but the town was so touristically developed it felt less real. But no exorbitant prices and when we ordered Prosecco sitting at a table almost in the lake, it came with a delicious plate of cheese, meats and olives at no extra charge !
On to the biggest lake next, Lake Maggiore, and Stresa. First we had a boat trip over to Isolabella where we had an amazing lunch and the local Piedmontese red wine. Back over to Stresa - very elegant, Belle Époque and busy.
I’ve loved my week. I love Lake Como the best and I want to return. There are so many places still to see and villages to get to know.
I’ve travelled a lot with VJV. The group has been very friendly and fun but you’re never crowded. The age profile isn’t as old as with other companies and they’re enthusiastic and professional. You can book excursions you fancy or just do your own thing. I came off season because they had terrific offers. We’ve been SO lucky with the weather too.
Home tomorrow - but I hope to return. (It runs a close second to my beloved Madeira.)
