Just Managing

Dear O’H dear and Lovely Tea Jenny,

Tonight I went to Montpeliers for dinner and drinks with The Major, Kitty Cat and The Explorer.

The Major is about to go on a holiday tour to Iraq so this is our last chance to catch up with him for a while. As always with that mob, the conversation was very childish and hilarious. We have all known each other for so long that the boundaries are wide and the filters are off. We were talking about a friend who used to give out vouchers as presents for the (cr@p) cafe where she worked. Kitty Cat, a nurse, said she could reciprocate by giving her a complimentary smear for her birthday! For some reason this ended up down the path of bikini lines and hedge trimmers but I’m not quite sure how we ended up there! I suspect the people at the tables near us were probably tiring of our hedge trimmer noises by the end of the night.

We did have some sensible conversations. There was some work chat. The Explorer has handed in her notice and is trying to decide what she wants to do after the summer. The Major is leaving the army in just over a year and wants to go into teaching. Both of them have decided to have a career change as they have become disillusioned with the culture within their current organisations. Kitty Cat has recently changed her job for the same reason. We all came to the (unsurprising) conclusion that the difference between being happy or miserable at work is often down to the effectiveness of the manager(s). The words c*ck, n0b and ar*ehole may have been used.

Once we had sorted the world out, we were back to hedge trimmers. ‘Rrrrrrm rrrrrmmm’
