Everyday I Write The Book

On reflection ...

I may have had one beer too many last night. So today was one that involved a lot of fresh air. In fact we walked 11km, And no beer. Pizza in the evening. Pizza was good. On the sofa, with a movie. God I love the sofa in this Airbnb, I would steal it if I could. It’s like me. Deep. Deep and well worn, but comfortable to be with. Also had a very decent latte from the Movenpick cafe on the corner across the road, although the eleven year boy serving behind the counter looked really confused when I tried to pay by cash. His working life was clearly built on swipes and pins.

Very diverse place Toronto. People either live in identical boxes in a tower block, or in a street where a person with a fridge and a burnt tyre in their garden lives next door to someone with an Italianate Mable statue and a weatherproof three piece suite on a Norman Bates style gothic verandah. Fascinating.

Yam Chops was good. It’s a vegan butchers. No kidding. Fridges full of burgers, spare ribs, schnitzels and sausages, all of them plant based. We saw the owner at last year’s vegfest in Vancouver. I’m going to get a cool box so I can take some home with me.

Street art. They love their street art here in Toronto. If you own a shop that’s on the end of a terrace you are more or less obliged to have a mural painted on the wall. Even if it does mean that the customers in the cafe next door have a huge alien attempting to steal their ketchup. I’m collecting an album of Toronto street art.

Nice park. Lots of dogs. Definitely a doggie town, Toronto. They have doggie meets to which humans "are also welcome". I saw posters for it. Haven’t seen a single cat. The Girl Racer says you can’t have them in Whistler because the coyotes eat them. Don’t think they have that excuse in Toronto.

Off to Niagara Falls tomorrow.
