Being sensible

I had a lovely swim this morning and later, I went out to Lidl to buy a couple of growbags and some compost. It wasn’t raining so I decided to go for a walk.

Croxall Lakes is one of the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust reserves and is situated immediately opposite the National Memorial Arboretum. It’s kept relatively neat and tidy and there are two excellent bird hides.

At this time of year, wildflowers and blossom are at their peak and my chosen photo tries to give an impression of the profusion and colour.

I decided to go out to the second bird hide from which there have been splendid opportunities to watch kingfishers. I went under the railway bridge and started to cross the field when I realised that there was a group of very lively young cows heading in my direction. Normally the cattle are in an adjacent field. Not today.

Even though I’ve worked hard on my mobility, I’m not fit enough to outrun them, even though they were only youngsters, so I decided to turn back . Wimp ? Yes. But I wasn’t going to risk it. They were cute so I took some photos from a place of safety.(extra)

So. No kingfisher sightings, and I couldn’t capture the Reed Warbler either ....

The Giro d’Italia has arrived at Paestum. I’ve been there :-)
