Mosquito DZ642 Memorial Unveiling

Another glorious day of sunshine, and hardly a cloud in the sky.  Breezy this morning, but fallen away.  Clear light skies tonight.

Rested well and for out into the garden after breakfast.  More tidying up needed, and maybe start planning the next project soon.  The afternoon was spent at the Cunningsburgh History Group.  An early start in the pub today.  I started at 5pm and on til close.

Today it's been the unveiling of the Mosquito DZ642 Memorial.  The de Havilland Mosquito DZ642 crashed on the Royl Field hill in Cunningsburgh on the 22nd Nov 1944, as it tried to make it's way to Sumburgh airport.  The men survived the crash, but perished in the wilderness.  The Cunningsburgh History Group got funding for the memorial project.  The men's family members made it up for the unveiling, along with veterans, RAF men and a great turn out from the public.  Mam also opened with the speeches.  Here's mam and the history group volunteers, family members and RAF men and veterans with the memorial, outside the Cunningsburgh History Group.
