Lisbon Day 2

BACKBLIP
With being in bed sleeping by 10pm, and having a great sleep, we were awake early to gorgeous sunshine and the fabulous views when we opened the shutters. What a great feeling knowing you have the whole week ahead to explore this vibrant city and it’s surroundings. We decided that we would head out to LX Factory which meant a tram from TUk Tuk Square (Figueira Square) to Alcāntara. Firstly though we stopped for breakfast in the Bakery we visited for provisions last October and chose a ham and cheese roll which when eating found it had a weird coconut cream on top haha!

Trams were quiet so we got a seat and 15 mins later we were in Alcāntara walking towards the cool LX Factory where there are many different crafty type places, start-ups, coffee shops and eateries. All set in a former factory complex. It’s a fab place to wander. It also has an amazing big bookshop called Ler Devagar, which was great for a photo opportunity. Really quirky. Loved it.

There is a new attraction opened nearby beside the 25th April Bridge, called Ponte 7, a glass lift that takes you on the level of the road part of the bridge with a glass bottom viewing platform. Eeek- I wasn’t brave enough to step on it but the views were fabulous over the river to Almada and Big Jesus on the hill.

Lunchtime was spent in Wish Cafe at LX Factory - coffee brilliant and also the food. We wandered afterwards to a t shirt place there and bought one. You could spend all day here sitting in one of the outdoor restaurants eating fab food and chatting but we returned to the Cais do Sodre area and spent some time in the Time Out Market. Many, many food outlets including six from the Top Chefs of Lisbon. We ate again (what are holidays for) and I made my way to one of the top ice cream makers Santini :).

Walking off the food was easy to do as we headed along riverside for a few miles and crossed the road up to the hills of Alfama to see that construction work was going on at Tonto’s corner (noooooo) with the tram lines being dug up for replacement:(. We were starting to wilt a bit and refreshment time was a necessity so we were near the Santiago de Alfama Hotel which has Audrey’s Cafe outside so yes, more food and drink!

Home to Grāça, uphill a little and a quick refresh before a return downhill to one of the best spit roasted chicken restaurants in Lisbon, Bon Jardim.

And yes, uphill to home and bed early (again)
Steps walked 20631 and a distance of 16km walked
