Autumnal Trees at the Wednesday Market

Our rather small market square is surrounded by trees like this. I thought they made a good splash of colour.

Looked at from behind, and into the sun, the trees also look rather fine, but they appear much greener. I doubt that the leaves on this side of the same trees are turning slower because they are protected. It seems to me more likely that the yellows, golds and browns are mostly in reflected light, and here we have a photograph where the colours are dominated by transmitted light that has passed through leaves that are still basically green. Are there experts out there who can confrm or deny this hypothesis?

It was definitely autumn weather this morning, but rather nice: a crisp but sunny day. Around the market itself, there are several coffee shops, with group of tables outside. People were enjoying their drinks in the sunshine, and one could (almost) imagine being in France or Italy. Outdoor drinking has probably been stimulated by the smoking ban, but it's a nice trend which makes for a much more jolly atmosphere in places like this.
