Oops - it was out of focus but you have a very nice view of the leaf of this berry plant.. thimble berries. They are so tasty and the ones along the trails at the park are right in the middle of their season. Usually a stem has about 5 berries on the end and the one in the middle usually ripens first, maybe a week or more than the others on the same stem. So as I walked by today, I picked and ate all the ripe middle berries and will munch on the others as they ripen. Fortunately I am not competing with bears for these little morsels.

It is true, if you are wondering, that summer starts on or after July 5 in the PNW. The overcast grayness is driving me mad.
