Surprise

I had a surprise day out. Normous was expecting to play golf and went out early. He was back before long because there was a competition on and he couldn't play. "Shall we go out for the day?" he said. This is a rare occurrence so I leapt at the chance.
We went Petworth. It was a lovely ride through the countryside down into West Sussex. Arriving at the big house we booked ourselves onto two tours, one to the private bedrooms and the other to the tunnels under the house. The guides were excellent and the tours interesting, especially the network of tunnels which were used by the servants to get the food from the kitchens, in a separate building, through to the dining room. The tunnels were cool! My blip is the stunning floor of the marble hall and there is an extra of a beautiful painted staircase.
After a standard National Trust lunch we ventured into the little town of Petworth. After two antique shops N decided he had had enough and disappeared into a pub. I enjoyed pottering a bit longer, lovely antique shops, gift shops and expensive clothes shops. I didn't buy! Petworth town pictures in the extras.
