Broch of Gurness

A windy day, but a sunny and warm day :)  The car was reading 23 degrees at its highest.

Another early start, and we headed north to the West Mainland to explore.  First stop was at the Broch of Gurness.  While in Evie, we nipped into the local shop and got a paper.  Our Jarl Squad feature in the Orcadian this week :)  Next stop was at the Earl's Palace in Birsay, which is connected with Scalloway castle.  The tide was down, so walked over to the Brough of Brisay too.  On to the Kirbuster farm museum, then lunch in Dounby.  Nipped to Stromness and bumped into friends, and finally found where my granny stayed at Swanbister, but not sure on the house.  Walk about Kirkwall this evening again.

I wasn't sure what to expect at the broch this morning, but I can certainly say I was impressed.  Having some fantastic brochs in Shetland, this one nearly keeps up with them.  For a building that's 2000 years old, and such a mystery why they were built, it really grabbed my attention.  The Broch of Gurness, Orkney.
