London Day Two
A pleasant 25° today, and a lot of it spent in the car's air con, driving around this lovely area, Surrey Hills.
First stop was Cobham to meet up with Nicky at her favourite cafe. It was great to see her again (last time we met in the city), and her carrot cake recommendation proved to be the highlight of the visit day!
Onwards using Mr Satnav (we just LOVE him) to pop in on England's biggest winery, Denbies. Not like a laid-back Kiwi winery, though, it's a big business, with a Big Sell, which we contributed to. Though no wine was sampled.
We then set off to drive to Abinger Hammer, a cute wee village on the way to Guildford, a cute big town. Mr Satnav was doing well, giving clear instructions, repeating them often enough. Then I suddenly saw the turn off, which Mr SN had failed to mention! But it was Abinger Common - not the same! In fact, we drove for miles through dense forests, really dark wooded areas. Miles and miles of winding narrow roads. Not unpleasant, but not the right way. So we missed that village, but did find Shere. It's been in lots of films apparently, none of which I’ve seen. What a busy wee place it was! But with a huge free car park. How thoughtful.
We stopped to look out at the views from Newlands Corner (Nicky's suggestion) where Agatha Christie left her car and staged her 'disappearance'.
Then a stop off in Guildford, a very nice town. It has a 'Bill's' so I was happy. It had shops, so JR was happy.
A few hiccups on the way home, with Mr Satnav being not quite insistent enough as we came out of town and into huge roundabouts and four lane roads. Whoops! We missed a couple of turns and had to have a few goes at getting on the right road, then whipped round the M25 and back home in no time. I think we're getting used to all this traffic!
A grand day out, but the car is staying parked tomorrow - the Big City beckons!
