London Day Three
30° in the city today. 30°!! Too hot for me, but today we went to see the Frida Kahlo Exhibition. Valda had told us the easiest way using public transport - day return to Richmond, then the District Line to South Kensington. Easy peasy. Other times we've taken the train right in, then had to get across London by tube. And come back on crowded trains with loads of folk standing, which I dreaded. But it was nae bother this time. And we could sit the whole way, which I was very glad of.
We remembered a nearby groovy cafe we went to with Chameleo years ago (Le Pain Quotidian) and so had a wee snack there before meeting Wendy, the woman who is coming to look after Archie next month. We met her over lunch before our time slot for the exhibition. We had a good natter, and we look forward to welcoming her in Edinburgh.
On to the exhibition. We had a timed entrance, which I assumed meant restricted numbers, but when we entered, we were greeted with crowds of folk jostling about, trying to look at the photos and read the captions. Not good. The whole thing was spoiled by being too crowded. There were corsets, false legs (complete with her red boots), jewellery, pills and potions, but the best bit was a marvellous display of many of her dresses/costumes.
The V&A is an amazing building, but I’m afraid I couldn’t make the most of it. I had hoped it would be cool inside, but it wasn’t, and I soon got quite tired completely knackered and had to keep sitting down. JR did have a wander round an amazing jewellery exhibition, but I couldn’t be tempted.
We took a stroll up Exhibition Road to see the Albert Memorial, but that was a struggle, it being very very very warm, even on the shady side. We watched a woman practising swinging about on a high trapeze. At least she would have had a bit of a breeze.
I was SO glad to get back to the house. I can’t hack the heat. Or the walking too far. Think I need a day of just tootling about in the car with the air con on tomorrow...
