Iron Age Hill Fort

We had a slow start after such a late night -2am, but got a picnic made and headed up to Clennell then walked along the river Alwin before heading very steeply uphill. (Quite a toil in the heat) It was then a pleasant stroll to a ruined farm called Old Rookland, where we had our picnic. Instead of taking the track down through woods and following a hard road back to Clennell, we headed over more tops to come down by this old hill fort in the blip. The views were stunning and we met nobody till we got to the Rose and Thistle in Alwinton for a welcome half of Northumbrian Gold.

Alter a cocktail (Salty Chihuahua) out in the sun, we had a starter of grilled courgette, physalis, pinenuts and Parmesan with lemon infused olive oil and a scattering of mint. This was followed by a delicious pasta dish I’d not made before, from last week’s Guardian. An unlikely combination of caramelised onions topping tagliatelle and peas and Stilton. The interesting bit was a mix of Greek yogurt, tahini and some of the pasta cooking water was tossed into the cooked pasta. It sounds unlikely but was yummy,

Managed a bit of red wine induced Brexit depression before bed at midnight,
