A spooky blipmeet...
...down the Victoria Tunnel...
As recommended by davidc - what a brilliant afternoon out with Roy, Pat and Dolly!
The tour was in two parts - firstly telling us about the use of the tunnel as a massive air raid shelter during the Second World War, with the potential to hold 9000 people ( see the gents toilet in extras ). And secondly about its construction to service the Spital Tongues coal mine in the mid nineteenth century - including the obligatory ghost story ;) See the team in extras, next to a recreation of the coal wagons - left to reach the riverside under gravity, and hauled back on a hemp rope two and a half miles long ( happily by a steam engine rather than manpower )!
