Pub Sign No. 10
The Rising Sun is a small, cosy pub in a terrace of weavers’ cottages (see extra) in Blacko, in the Pendle area of Lancashire.
In 1612 ten people were executed having been found guilty of witchcraft. They were all from the Pendle area and the evidence given against them was based on memories, hearsay and superstition and would not be considered in a modern court - but they were hanged and the legend of the so called ‘Pendle Witches’ began and continues to fascinate people even today.
