Diary of an Edinburgher

New cafe

JR shot out of the house in a big hurry this morning, saying she was late for her fitness class. She came back about five minutes later saying that it was Tuesday - the class is on Wednesdays! I could have told her that...

She then popped off for her executive housekeeping stint, while I did a few leisurely household tasks. Some good ones - eg I rang the chimney folk to clean and check the flue, which should be done twice a year, but hasn’t been. Last time there was only a wee handful of soot, so I know it doesn’t necessarily need cleaning.

We set off across the Links again today, heading for the jeweller - JR has a token to there, part of her birthday present. It was shut yesterday, as were some other shops (Monday) but it was also, annoyingly, shut today.

So we popped in to a new vegan (dog friendly) cafe. Nice place, nice music (nothing screechy), good sound system, and a promising menu, though we'd had lunch at home.

You know how things sound super, and then aren’t... it was like that. It was uninspiring, but with a few tweaks, could have been super - eg my chips were soggy. The staff were so friendly and attentive, and patted Archie, so that I didn’t feel like complaining, and when we were asked how everything was, we said 'Fine. Good. Great.' We then felt guilty. Should you be honest? Do they want you to be honest? We won’t be rushing back.

When we came back, JR took Archie away for a big walk. I lay on the sofa, 'Antiques Road Show' on mute with subtitles and Radio 4 on (not mute) and did a few leg exercises had a snooze.

Enjoying 'Patrick Melrose' on Sky Atlantic. Benedict Cumberbatch is terrific. Only five episodes. Two more tonight.
