Mod Weekender
The August Bank holiday weekend in Brighton is known for the Mod Weekender, when Mods come from far and wide and gather on Madeira Drive to show off their Vespa's and Labretta's, and the majority come dressed in keeping of the era. As I used to be a Mod when I was a teenager, I love to go down to see them and have blipped them most years. The sun was shining and the atmosphere was great, with plenty of music playing.
We spent some time looking at the bikes and taking lots of photos, when one guy drove towards me holding his left hand in the V symbol. I didn't have a clue who he was, but Alan said it was Arg from Towie - I've added a couple to my extras if you want to take a look, together with one of a lambretta that was in the film Quadrophenia.
We went to Harry Ramsden's and got some chips and went and sat in the Old Steine Gardens to eat them, and then had a walk through The Lanes. Alan fancied a coffee and a cake, so we found a little cafe that had tables outside before wandering back along the sea front.
The weather's been perfect for it today, but unfortunately very heavy rain and strong winds are forecast for tomorrow which is a shame for them, as they have a 'ride out' along the coast road to the Smuggler's Rest planned for tomorrow afternoon. I can imagine it's quite a spectacle seeing hundreds of Vespa's driving along together and would love to see it, but I don't think tomorrow will be the weather for it.
By the time we got home it was after 4pm, I made a lasagne, had a soak in the hot tub and the exciting new is that I've ordered a second camera body from Park Cameras. It was Alan's suggestion, so that I can keep the zoom lens on one body, and the wide angle on the other and as the camera is small and lightweight, it won't be a problem carrying both in my camera bag. Anyway, he found the same camera body as mine, and it's as new, having only taken 64 shots, so it's a really good deal. I've done click and collect, so will go and pick it up tomorrow or Monday.
