Coffee break
We left home very early on Monday morning to drive to Nakhon Ratchasima, known simply as Korat. The reason for the shortening of the name refers to the ethnic groups that settled there from 4 places, and are a mixture of Thai, Laos , Khmer and Kuy. Their culture and beliefs have blended into their own unique culture and language. This part of Thailand is known as Issan. It is a 10 hour drive so we did have to stop a couple of times for coffee and petrol. We have discovered that the best places to stop are petrol stations that have an Amazon café. The coffee is good and the facilities are clean. Nothing worse than discovering that the toilets are squat ones. The other thing about these particular cafes is that they always plant wonderful little gardens and create a small jungle area to sit outside in. They generally also have a few shops to look at including a 7 11. It's like a tiny shopping mall. England and Australia could learn a lot from them. You can stretch your legs, get coffee and buy snacks for the journey and of course get petrol.
