Jersey Day Eight
And so to the final part of the Coastal Path, from Bonne Nuit Bay back to the start at Devil's Hole (a mere 8,901 steps, 5.5km), though all agreed it could have been finished in four days.
Bob went off to his art classes (felt pens today) dropping the intrepid walkers at the starting place. I strolled to meet them at the Devil's Hole, which was only 4.3km away. The Priory Pub wasn’t open when I arrived (for a coffee!) so I walked on down to the coast and the famous 'Devil's Hole', which was quite spectacular, though rather tame on a flat calm day like today.
After I had staggered back up the steep hill I was delighted - nay, overjoyed - to find the pub now open, and a very passable flat white was had while I waited in the sun for the long distance walkers to show up, which they did about half an hour later. They found a very pertinent STOP sign, and obligingly climbed on the wall to pose with it. The Irish barman happened to come out and saw them crawling along the wall and exclaimed, 'Trill seekers!
I must say, we've done very well with rendezvous-ing without the use of mobile phones, which just don’t seem to work here. Well, mine didn’t.
The girls had excellent coffees (double shot espressos) then went down to inspect the Devil's Hole, and we were about to set off walking home when Anne had the even better idea of ringing Bob and asking him to pick us up for lunch as our favourite beachside cafe beckoned - El Tico on St Ouen's Bay. And we could not have chosen better. Not only being able to sit outside in the sun with a view of the never ending beach, but the menu is brilliant. JR and I both had an epic salad (Extra). A warm salad - green beans, pine nuts, sautéed mushrooms, parmesan, avocado, croutons, crispy pancetta with a pesto dressing and char grilled prawns. Yum yum YUM!
And to celebrate the completion of the walk, we're having bubbly tonight.
A ferry trip to St Malo in France tomorrow, a birthday present from Anne and Bob. The treats keep coming!
PS Archie and Bailey went up Arthur's Seat today with Wendy and Janet.
