Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Back home!

We left the Uzès flat at 8am, (breakfast in a cafe near the bus stop) and got home at 7pm. Rather a long day with lots of waiting around, walking miles, queuing for ages, two lots of security checks, but only had to take my shoes off once. We've decided only to travel on direct flights from now on.

We had a super French holiday - only one day of rain. We had begun to know some of the locals, too. The artist, our friend in the photo shop who was at the cafe, waving to us, and the waitress in our brioche cafe who was at the airport, going to Fez. Using the local buses worked out really well, though there were several favourite places we just couldn’t get to by bus - St Remy, Les Beaux, Gordes...

We left Nîmes in mizzle, arrived and left Stansted in mist and low cloud, but arrived in Edinburgh in gorgeous evening sunshine. That skyline - with dark blue sky and twinkling lights... Magic.

At Stansted security we were dismayed to see the hundreds upon hundreds of people lined up before us. I used my 'sore knees' excuse and we got whisked straight through. Brilliant.

Home at last. Archie was mildly excited. For about two minutes. JR caught the brief moment... He's snoozing now, but at the other end of the sofa from me.

Nice to be home!
