A big hike!

After the meeting yesterday everyone stayed at our apartment last night and this morning after breakfast one person left to go back to Zurich while the rest of us set out on a hike. Luckily the season only closes on Sunday so the gondola up the mountain was still operating. 

We went up the mountain by gondola and then did a walk that went further up then mountain and then down a valley. The autumn colours were beautiful and there were pretty patches of pink which were the bilberry plants (see extra). At the bottom of the valley we had a delicious lunch at a mountain restaurant serving local specialities. We were going to finish the walk by walking down the road to the village again but as we all felt energetic we extended our walk and went up the other side of the valley. There was a moment where the path seemed to disappear and we had a very difficult scramble down the mountain, at times on our bottoms sliding down, as it was so slippery with loose stones.  We eventually made it to the end - we covered 15km with some very steep ascents and descents.

Back to the apartment for a well earned drink and then Gavin made supper - bratwurst and rösti which we always enjoy eating when we are here. It was a wonderful day with the most beautiful weather - sunny and not cold. I was surprised to still see butterflies, buttercups and poppies, which is not expected at this time of year.

Time for a quick walk tomorrow before going to the airport to head home again. Finally managed to upload some extras here
