Pack it in....
Let T have a lie in and after bacon rolls we headed to St Andrews. Stunning weather but very cold....and the wind was whipping us as we walked - but fabulous feeling to have all the cobwebs blown away! We were slightly envious of the sand surfers shooting across the beach but had enough fun without the risk taking!
Back up to the town for delicious fish and chips (and the others had local G&Ts then Italian gelato too!) before driving to Dundee to catch the last hour of opening at the V&A (extra), which looked amazing in the beautiful light.
We went over to Perth and weren't very successful getting a cosy drink anywhere so ended up at the Theatre bar before the play started. Very powerful show, the last in a trilogy about the 306 young men shot in WW1 for 'cowardice' or desertion. We'd seen the first one a couple of years ago and it was so moving and very creative in its staging. This was more standard staging but still powerful - especially when all 306 names were projected up on the stage and the cast said/sang the whole list. So sad...the last one was killed 4 days before the end of that awful war.
It provided lots of food for thought and conversation as we headed off to our hotel and (after an irritating delay because of satnav problems) we arrived in pitch dark at the hotel. Very atmospheric outside with huge trees, a shooting star and a very 'tartan and stag's heads' traditional Scottish country house sort of place. We had some sandwiches and drinks in the fishing themed bar...was lovely to have a hot toddy by the fire!...before heading to our riverside room. Toasty and warm and very dark!
