Trollstigen
Backblip - Having a friend who lives on the west coast of Norway is a great blessing in life. Today was a road trip to Geiranger (his mum grew up on a farm on the side of Geiranger Fjord, just across from the Seven Sisters waterfall), then we stopped at Gudbrandsjuvet on the way to Trollstigen (the Trolls' ladder). We weren't sure it was open (it closes for the winter around this time each year), and there was very little traffic on the road, but we kept on going up to the pass just in case. When we were nearly at the plateau at the top, we passed five or six Porsches coming down, so we were sure it must still be open! It's an incredible 9-10 degree road with 11 hairpin bends. At the top there's a visitor centre, but that was closed, we don't know because it was late in the day or because there was a film crew there. There's great walkway with viewpoints, so we wandered before heading down the zig zags. See the extra shots for a few more photos, including the autumn shot of Geiranger fjord, taken from the spot we sat and had our picnic lunch. Another benefit of a local - you're not stuck to the same viewpoints the normal tourists are! I was absolutely blown away by the beauty today, just incredible. I should also say that this is a stitched panorama of about 15 shots to try and get the whole thing in.
