Dear O'H dear and Lovely Tea Jenny,

One of The Explorer’s friends was hosting an evening in the Scottish Arts Club to show his latest drawings so The Mini Princesses and I went along to have a look.

He is passionate about nature and wildlife and his fantastic pen and ink drawings are all of animals and insects. I love looking at that kind of talent, particularly as it’s very alien to my own skill set. I think the Mini Princesses got to about 3 before they stopped asking me to draw them anything. I did try to explain that my cows and dogs were conceptual as that seems to work for any old b0llocks but they weren’t having any of it.

I once saw proof of this when I went to an exhibition at the modern art gallery. One of the pictures was titled ‘A torn page’. It was genuinely a torn piece of paper in a frame and one of the rare occasions in a gallery where I could genuinely say ‘Even I could do that’. I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I did have stifle a snort at two people chuntering away and declaring that ‘it was such a clever concept’. I still suspect the artist did it for a bet.
