Optimism
The BBC.....what can you say?....always a surprise.
Last night I was saying how shit their tv news programmes are but I watch them for a bit, before turning off, cos they are funnier than most of their comedy output. The Welsh fella looking all serious as they give us a one-sided ITN delivery of the news is hysterical.
They then tell us that Man Utd won 7-1 on the night and 8-2 on aggregate and Ronaldo (the target of sensationalist sports media recently) scored twice.
It was 8-3 on aggregate and Michael Carrick scored twice too - both goals a shitload better than Ronaldo's.

Anyway, this morning I was driving into work and caught the start of the first of BBC4's five Reith 2007 lectures. Today's - Bursting at the Seams - was delivered by Jeffrey Sachs - a legend in macro economics and development. I've heard him speak before on US tv/internet in the company of the likes of Bono or Bill Clinton and, considering the horiffic stats that pass his eyes everyday, the fella is always full of boundless optimism.
I was gutted cos it was 9am and as I drove into the carpark the signal cut out. Checked out the transcript and listened to the download at lunchtime. Class. (but Geri Halliwell - WTF)
The remaining 4 are in Beijing, New York, London and finally in Edinburgh. They are all on at 8pm at night each of the next 4 Wednesdays so I might catch 'em all.
The one in Edinburgh is the least interesting to me but I might weasel a seat. Next week in Beijing - "Survival in the Anthropocene" - should be the most interesting.
My faith in the BBC is lost and restored on a regular basis.
These nerdy topics get me more and more as I age too.
Listen in if you gets the chance man.
