Next year's firewood...

Dear Diary,

This is one of the trees that was damaged by the last storm, a locus at the back edge of the field.  Matt came with his trusty chainsaw and fell it.  It will lie there all winter and in the spring he will limb it and cut it into short lengths for the woodstove.  Locus burns hot, just what I need in these frigid temperatures.

I had a nice warm fire last night as I wrapped more presents.  Nothing says "New England Christmas" than sitting by a woodstove wrapping presents!  Wood heat is a warmer heat, it's wonderful.  But you have to think ahead.  The wood must dry for at least 6 months before you can burn it.  Matt will be felling a couple more small trees in the spring too.  Emerson and I have to stay warm!
