Floating spire

I have been very impressed with the lights around Carlisle this year - they seem to be much better than usual. Someone has made an effort. But it’s still the Cathedral that I like best - the lights enhancing the beautiful stonework. Because the roof is black it gives an almost eerie feel to it, as if the spires are floating. And in this picture you can see, through the top windows, the lovely blue starry choir ceiling.

However, we have actually been in the Church next door - a wonderful candlelit concert by the Royal Northern Sinfonia. A range of music was very well received. A fine evening.
