Why did I come in here?

Poivre Rose

The scene, a small hotel and restaurant, auberge, near Calais. We have regularly used the same location and so I felt I might ask what the name of the crushed peppercorns were in the dish in front of me. The bemused waitress returned and in excellent Franglais informed me they are pink peppercorns. Well I knew that didn't I? Or did I? Never mind. They are added uncooked to various dishes and add what may be described as a piquant, aromatic edge to food. Crushing a black pepper in your teeth is asking for trouble, not with these, they are exquisite. Luckily we found some in a market in the Door Dog Knee.
Yesterday I put some in a chicken casserole. Mrs Bootneck loves me again.
For the techy minded this was taken by Helicon Remote in 23 frames. Wonderful programme.

In other news.....
I'm convinced you get what you pay for. Consequently I food shop at M&S as there is never any waste and also at Sainsbugs; so I'm probably a shop snob. Today I was forced into Lidl by the boss. I am converted. There were items you only ever used to see on the continent. I have a new hobby, Lidlling! When I pressed my card in the machine I expected a bill of £125 - £140; nothing like it, £89, result!

Pepper it large boy!
