Firestarter

Dear O'H dear and Lovely Tea Jenny,

We headed up to Banchory today to visit Penny and Albert for a couple of days.

Staying with Penny and Albert generally involves A LOT of eating and a fair amount of wine consumption. As well as the usual 3 main meals, there is also mid-morning and mid-afternoon coffee breaks which are always served with home baking. You never go longer than 2 hours without being fed!

At dinner tonight, the wine was definitely flowing quite freely and we were all in high spirits*. Penny and The Youngest Mini Princess disappeared to get dessert and Penny came through to the dining room holding a flaming baked Alaska. It all looked very impressive!

“Erm Dad?,” said YMP very calmly wandering through to the dining room behind Penny.

“Yes,” replied The Prince over the chorus of “oohs” as the brandy burned out on the Baked Alaska.

“The kitchen tablecloth is on fire.”

The Prince bolted through and did his best fireman Sam impression**. Penny’s aim with the brandy may have been slightly less accurate than usual and it had spread beyond the top of the dessert!

It was hilarious. Not the fire, but the very slapstick feel to it.

Moral of the story - do not waste alcohol by setting it on fire.
